Job Summary

The Library Services Associate provides circulation, reference, course reserve and interlibrary loan services; supports processing and maintenance activities and ensures adherence to library guidelines and policies.

Representative Duties

  • Facilitate library processes and activities; provide support to students, faculty, and community users including circulation and reference services, room scheduling, fee handling, interlibrary loan processing, and collection maintenance
  • Analyze, interpret, and update user account records; respond to requests and administer policies for library users; resolve customer concerns
  • Search and select materials using cataloging resources; ensure accuracy of records in catalog; create database records
  • Provide library support; facilitate the ordering, receipt, and inspection of materials; ensure adherence to handling and check-in procedures; process invoices; verify and update databases with item information
  • Serve as Interlibrary Loan point of contact; process incoming and outgoing items; search catalogs and databases to identify matches and lenders; monitor requests and status of orders; provide customer support for Interlibrary Loan software
  • Coordinate course reserves including collection and record maintenance, requests, purchases; consult with faculty on course reserve procedures and copyright guidelines
  • Maintain collections including filing, reshelving, labeling, annexing; research and investigate missing library materials; assist with monitoring collection budgets
  • Assist customers with the use library technology; submit technology tickets; identify technology needs
  • Retrieve and distribute library materials; investigate missing material (e.g., periodicals, issues, books, etc.)
  • May recommend opportunities to improve services; create library guides and web resources
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management
  • May set schedules and work assignments for part time staff; determine workload allocations within work unit

– Demonstrates ability to perform intermediate tasks in defined skill areas. Demonstrates intermediate knowledge of internal procedures. Works under general supervision, performing assignments that may be varied and sometimes difficult. Supports team decisions and follows through with team responsibilities. Interprets and communicates information clearly and accurately. Demonstrates intermediate problem–solving skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– May provide basic direction to lower level support staff
Fiscal Responsibilities:
– Handles routine financial transactions
– May validate and pay invoices

– Encounters generally routine problems; occasionally faces more complex and/or varied problems
– Typically follows recommended course of action and procedures to resolve problems
– Applies knowledge of institutional policies and procedures in determining course of action
Independence of Action:
– Work is generally monitored by supervisor
– Detailed instructions and procedures are generally provided
– Uses available guidelines to make appropriate adaptations to routine situations and refers other situations to supervisor

Salary Structure
  • Comp Grade – 4
  • Minimum – $34,800.00
  • MidPoint – $42,600.00
  • Maximum – $50,500.00
