Job Summary and Representative Duties
The Student Success Specialist develops, implements, coordinates, assesses, and promotes student success programs and services that support academic achievement, persistence, retention, and graduation outcomes; works directly with students to identify learning needs, address barriers to academic success, and connect students with resources and support services; utilizes evidence-based practices, assessment data, and student engagement strategies to design and deliver academic support programs, interventions, workshops, and learning experiences that foster student success.
- Meet individually and in groups with students to assess academic support needs, identify barriers to success, and develop action plans to promote academic achievement and persistence
- Connect students with appropriate campus resources and coordinate referrals to academic advising, counseling, disability services, tutoring, financial support programs, and other student support services
- Monitor student progress and engagement; provide follow-up support and interventions designed to improve retention and academic outcomes
- Assist students in developing effective learning strategies, study skills, time management techniques, academic planning practices, and self-advocacy skills
- Maintain appropriate documentation and records related to student participation, progress, referrals, and outcomes
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate academic support programs and services designed to enhance student learning, engagement, retention, and graduation outcomes
- Facilitate learning support initiatives such as tutoring programs, guided study groups, supplemental instruction, peer mentoring programs, learning communities, academic coaching, and developmental learning opportunities
- Create and deliver workshops, seminars, orientations, and educational programming focused on academic success, learning strategies, student engagement, and transition support
- Develop educational materials, learning resources, and outreach initiatives that promote student success and increase awareness of available support services
- Support the implementation of strategic student success initiatives and institutional retention efforts
- Utilize assessment data, student performance indicators, and early alert systems to identify students who may benefit from academic support services and interventions
- Implement targeted intervention strategies designed to improve student engagement, persistence, and academic achievement
- Collect, analyze, and report program participation and outcome data to evaluate effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts
- Assist in assessing program outcomes and student learning outcomes; recommend enhancements based on data, feedback, and emerging best practices
- Stay current on research, trends, and evidence-based practices related to student success, retention, learning support, and higher education
- Collaborate with faculty, academic advisers, counselors, and student support professionals to identify student needs and coordinate services
- Partner with faculty to develop and implement academic support strategies that reinforce course objectives and improve student learning outcomes
- Foster partnerships with campus stakeholders to improve the student experience and advance program goals
- Build relationships with students and student organizations to identify emerging needs and opportunities for support
- Coordinate day-to-day operations of assigned programs, services, or learning support centers
- May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management
